Age-related drooping, sagging and wrinkles may appear on the upper eyelid. At the same time, the eyelid may be structurally slanted and low. The patient, whose field of vision is narrowed, expresses that he wants to get rid of it by showing the eyelid skin between the index and thumb at the upper outer quadrant and eyebrow level and shows that it prevents him from seeing.

In upper eyelid surgeries, excess and sagging skin is cut and removed by drawing a banana shape. Incision scars can be easily hidden between the natural lines of the eyelid.

The surgery can be performed under local anesthesia + sedation. It takes about 1 hour to correct both upper eyelids. Ice application immediately after the surgery reduces swelling considerably. On the first day, it is recommended that the patient should not keep his/her eyes open, watch television, use a computer or read, in short, should not strain his/her eyes too much. The aim is to restrict the opening and closing movement as much as possible and to ensure that the wound closes more quickly. Since the eyelid skin is very thin and the subcutaneous tissue is quite loose, swelling and edema are common. Postoperative swelling reaches its maximum in 48 hours, then decreases at the same rate and disappears completely on the 8th-10th day. What is important here is that the patient should be informed from the very beginning that this operation gives results after about 1-1.5 months. Thus, our patient is prevented from having unwarranted concerns that the operation is unsuccessful due to swelling.

If the patient wears contact lenses, he/she is allowed to wear contact lenses provided that the patient pays attention to cleanliness. On the 8th-9th days, light make-up can be applied.

Lower Eyelid Aesthetics

Over time, the fatty tissue in the lower eyelid can overcome the soft tissue support and skin barrier above it and push the skin outwards (herniation) and the skin can sag downwards due to the effect of gravity. This condition, popularly referred to as bagging, gives the person an older, tired, sleepless and exhausted appearance. Surgical scars are hidden just under the eyelashes. The operation is performed under strong sedation or general anesthesia, especially in the lower eyelid.

Detailed Approach to Eyelid Surgery

Aesthetic surgeries do not always cover large areas. Some surgeries require very small interventions. Just like aesthetic eyelid surgery. Eyelid aesthetics is performed in a short time and does not cause any side effects or scars. As the age progresses, the eyebrow structure sags and along with the eyebrow, the upper eyelid skin becomes loose and sags downwards. In the lower eyelids, the skin becomes loose, wrinkles and under-eye bags become more prominent. Blepharoplasty is a plastic surgery of the upper and lower eyelids and is performed in combination with a brow lift or forehead lift if necessary. The surgery is performed over the fold line on the upper eyelid and just below the eyelashes on the lower eyelid, so that the surgical scars are not evident and remain hidden.

The eyelids are the place where aging manifests itself most and attracts the most attention. Skin wrinkling on the eyelids, which are both very mobile and very thin-skinned due to their structure, is almost inevitable in later ages. All sagging and loosening around the eyelids also affect the eyelids.

Information;

    After Eyelid Surgery

    Blepharoplasty surgeries can be performed under general or local anesthesia. Upper eyelid aesthetic surgery takes 40 minutes and lower eyelid surgery takes 1 hour. You can return home the same day after the surgery. It does not cause uncomfortable pain complaints. Swelling and bruising occurs on the eyelids due to the effect of the surgery and decreases and passes within 5-7 days. Air travel is possible 4 days after the surgery and you can return to work after 1 week.

    Eyelid surgeries are usually performed in the hospital under local or general anesthesia. The surgery takes about 1 hour.

    Surgical intervention consists of removing a suitable piece of skin from the sagging tissue and the fat masses that form the bags. In the upper eyelids, the incisions are made in the fold of the lid so that they are not visible afterwards. In the lower eyelid, the surgical scar is made at the base of the eyelashes. The amount of skin to be removed is carefully marked while the patient is in a sitting position. After the excess skin marked on both eyelids is removed, the excess fat bags are removed. The operation is terminated after the incisions are sutured.

    After the surgery, the eyes are covered with moist gauze and kept closed for 1-2 hours and ice is placed on them. This reduces swelling and bruising in the future.

    The first step for anyone considering blepharoplasty is to choose an experienced plastic surgeon. After examining you, the surgeon will evaluate the variables that will affect the decision for surgery, such as age, skin condition and other physical and medical factors.

    Hundreds of blepharoplasties are successfully performed every year. Nevertheless, you should be informed about the possible risks of surgery and the specific complications associated with blepharoplasty. Complications such as infection or blood pooling are rare.

    In younger people, blepharoplasty is usually only used to remove fatty tissue under the lid. In older people, loss of skin tone will require removal of excess skin as well. In some people, drooping eyebrows and temple may negatively affect the result of eyelid surgery. In these cases, your doctor may recommend a brow lift or forehead lift. It is important to identify eye problems that prevent or reduce vision and tear formation before surgery. These conditions should be treated by an eye specialist before eyelid surgery.
