Information

Ear Aesthetic surgery is applied for those who are uncomfortable with the external appearance of the ear. Patients who have to grow hair and use the same hairstyle to hide the unappealing appearance of the ears, psychologically improve greatly after surgery.
In the prominent ear problem, it can be observed that the ear folds are underdeveloped or not developed at all, as well as the ears standing open. After this treatment, the auricle takes a flatter appearance like the inner side of a spoon.

ToggleThe only method applied for prominent ear treatment is to create folds if there are no ear folds and to apply a backward tilting intervention to the ear as it should be. The most appropriate age for prominent ear treatment is 5-6 years before school age. Prominent ear treatment should be performed before the child starts school. Otherwise, the shape of the child’s ears may be the subject of conversation, mockery and ridicule among his/her friends. A child who is made fun of and ridiculed develops an inferiority complex and accompanying mental problems. In the eyes of every parent, their child is the most beautiful and perfect child. Since every parent loves their child unconditionally, they turn a blind eye even if the child has a defect. Parents do not feel the need for prominent ear treatment in their children and do not seek it. For this reason, the prominent ear treatment of most people was not performed at this age, it was left for later ages. However, prominent ear treatment can be performed at any age.
One of the methods applied for prominent ear correction is prominent ear aesthetics with thread, which is a small intervention that is not considered surgery. During prominent ear aesthetics, the back side of the ears is anesthetized, and the ear is fixed by pulling it backwards with threads passed under the skin. If it is performed together with cartilage shaping, very satisfactory results can be obtained. In people with weak ear folds, various combinations can be made since the cartilage needs to be shaped to form the folds. The patient’s suitability for this operation is determined after the doctor’s examination.
Prominent ear surgery is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia, depending on the age of the candidate. Since pediatric patients can be timid and irritable, they are operated under general anesthesia so that the surgeon can work comfortably. Prominent ear surgery takes approximately 30-40 minutes for each ear, totaling approximately 1-1.5 hours. After the surgery, a bandage is wrapped around your ears that will stay on for 3 days. You may feel pain after the surgery, but this pain will not be severe enough to bother you. The painkillers recommended by your doctor for the first few days will make your recovery period comfortable.
The first check-up is done 3 days after the surgery. During the control, the bandage is opened, when the bandage is opened, you may see slight swelling and bruises when you look at your ears. These are normal. It will resolve within 1 week. You can start bathing on the day the bandage is opened. For the first 3 months after the surgery, you should avoid impacts and folding your ears forward.
An adverse movement within the first 3 months after a prominent ear operation can cause the internal sutures to break down, causing the ear to return to its former state. This situation is not dangerous in terms of health, but it causes the surgery to be repeated. If the first 3 months after the prominent ear operation are carefully protected, the cartilages will be fused in that way, and their shape will not deteriorate even if they are hit after that.
