ToggleHair transplantation can also be called hair follicle transplantation. Hair transplantation is the process of transplanting hair follicles taken from areas where hair is dense (nape and side parts) to sparser, empty areas. Hair transplantation is an organ transplant that involves transferring a person’s own tissue to another part.
Two methods are applied: FUT and FUE.
FUT: In the FUT method, the hair follicle unit to be transplanted is taken in the form of a narrow strip from the scalp between the two ears; a light and thin scar remains after this procedure.
FUE: In the FUE technique, the roots to be transplanted are obtained by extracting individual follicular units with a special tool. This technique is based on obtaining the roots one by one, and allows the hair on the body to be extracted and used. The advantage of the method is that the locations of the roots extracted one by one are not visible, meaning there are no scars.
After the operation, an overnight bandage is applied to the area where the hair follicles are removed. The bandage is removed during the hair washing and control phase the next day. The crusted appearance in the transplanted area disappears within 7-10 days with washing.
After the operation, red crusts appear in the transplantation area. You can prevent this by washing your head once a day. Within 5 – 7 days, the scabs fall off completely. The transplanted hair also falls out along with the crusts. Thus, within 15 days to 1 month, the patient returns to his/her pre-transplant appearance. Afterwards, there is no change in appearance for 3 months. New hair starts to grow after 3 months. The change in the patient is mostly seen in the 5th and 6th months. In later periods, it sometimes takes up to 1 year for the hair to grow completely. The nutrition and especially the psychological state of the person after hair transplantation are important for hair growth.
